Culture of Africa

The culture of Africa is varied and manifold, consisting of a mixture of bribes that each have their own unique characteristics. It is a product of the diverse populations that today inhabit the continent of Africa and the African Diaspora. African culture is expressed in its arts and crafts, folklore and religion, clothing, cuisine, music and languages. Africa is so full of culture , with it not only changing from one country to another, but within a single country, many cultures can be discovered. Even though African cultures are widely diverse, it is also, when closely studied, seen to have many similarities. For example, the morals they uphold, their love and respect for their culture as well as the strong respect they hold for the aged and the important i.e. Kings and Chiefs. Africa has influenced and been influenced by other countries. This can be portrayed in the willingness to adapt to the ever changing modern world rather than staying rooted to their static culture. The Westernized few, persuaded by European culture and Christianity, first denied African traditional nationalism, a cultural recovery occurred. The governments of most African nations encourage national dance and music groups, museums, and to a lower degree, artists and writers.

 

Detroit Masonic Temple

The Masonic Temple is the world’s largest Masonic Temple. Located in the Cass Corridor of Detroit, Michigan. at 500 Temple Street, the building serves as a home to various  including the York Rite Sovereign of North America. The building contains a variety of public spaces including three theaters, three ballrooms and banquets halls.  Recreational facilities include a swimming pool, handball court, gymnasium, bowling alley, and a pool hall. Masonic Temple Theatre. a venue for concerts. Broadway shows, and other special events in the Detroit Theater district Detroit . It contains a 55 by 100 foot stage, one of the largest in the country. Detroit Masonic Temple was designed in the neo-gothic architectural style, using a great deal of limestone. The ritual building features 16 floors, stands 210 feet tall, with 1,037 rooms. It dominates the skyline in the area known as Cass Corridor, across Temple Street from Cass Park, and Cass Technical High School. It is within walking distance of the Motor City Casino Hotel .It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is part of the Cass Park Historic district. which was established in 2005.

The NMAAM

As the only museum dedicated to all dimensions of African American music, The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAN) will showcase over 50 music genres created or impacted by African Americans, honor the legacy and legends of this diverse music and detail the impact this music has on musicians and consumers around the world. Form the time the United States was a colony, African Americans have created, innovated, performed and otherwise participated in the process of music making. In fact, without argument, it can be stated, that African Americans have provided the most significant cultural inputs in the development of American music. The National Museum of African American Music celebrates their tireless efforts and triumphantly boasts of the historical impact made around the world. As a pilgrimage museum, NMAAM will draw upon a range of music and history enthusiasts to explore and celebrate African American music. The museum will tell the story of genres, instruments and vocalists the have shaped the influenced music around the world landscape to celebrate and honor the legacy and legends.

Detroit, Michigan

Detroit is the largest city in the Midwestern stat of Michigan. Near Downtown, the neoclassical Detroit Institute  of Arts is famed for Diego Rivera murals inspired by the city’s long-standing ties to the auto industry, which earned it the nickname “Motor City.” Detroit is also the birthplace of Motown Records, whose chart-topping history is on display at Hitsville U. S.A. Detroit is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Michigan, the fourth- largest city in the Midwest and the largest city on the United States- Canada border. It is the seat of Wayne County, the most populous county in the state . Detroit’s metropolitan are, known as Metro Detroit, is home to 5.3 million people, making it the fourteenth-most  populous metropolitan area in the United States and the second-largest in the Midwestern United States(behind Chicago). Live music has been a prominent feature of Detroit’s nightlife since the late 1940s, bringing the city recognition under the nickname “Motown”. The metropolitan area has many nationally prominent live music venues. Concerts are held at DTE Energy Music Theatre and The Palace of Auburn Hills. The city’s theatre venue circuit is the United State’s second largest and hosts Broadway performances.

Belle Isle Aquarium

The Belle Isle Aquarium is a public aquarium located in Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan. Designed by noted architect Albert Kahn, it opened on August 18, 1904, and was the oldest continually operating public aquarium in North America. The 10,000 square foot historic building features a single large gallery with an arched ceiling covered in green glass tile to evoke an underwater feeling. When it opened it was the third largest aquarium in the world. The Belle Isle Aquarium participated in breeding programs for several endangered species. One of Detroit’s historic icons, the Belle Isle Aquarium was the first public aquarium to open in the United States and, on its opening day it was celebrated, not only as the third largest, but also the finest aquarium the world has ever seen.

This list of tallest buildings in Detroit ranks skyscrapers and high rises in the U.S. City of Detroit, Michigan by height. The Marriott International’s in United States, with 1,289 rooms. It remains the tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. Here we have a list of the tallest skyscrapers: One Detroit Center (1993) has 43 floors. The Penobscot Building (1928) has 47 floors and the Guardian Building that towers over the Detroit Financial District (1929) has 40 floors. There are also 3000 Town Center, Southfield, the tallest in suburban Detroit (1975) has 32 floors. There are skyscrapers in downtown Grand Rapids. Boji Tower, Lansing’s tallest building located downtown (1931) has 23 floors. Detroit also has an apartment name Jeffersonian Apartments and it were built in 1965 and it has 30 floors.

It’s a tourist attraction and landmark of Detroit, Michigan extending from the Ambassador Bridge to the west of Belle Isle, which is a total of 5 miles. The Internal Riverfront encompasses a cruise ship passenger terminal and dock, a marina, a multitude of park, restaurants, retail shops, skyscrapers, and the tallest building in the U>S> city of Detroit, Michigan is the 73- story Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center which rises 727 feet (222m) along Detroit’s International Riverfront.

The cruise ship passenger terminal docks at Hart Plaza. When the weather is nice walking along the Riverfront is beautiful. You can also see across the waters to Canada. The  Riverwalk offers a breathtaking views of the Detroit River and  the city skyline. Also there are recreational opportunities abound, as a trail that links Milliken State Park and numerous plazas. The 31 – acre park offers covered picnic areas, shoreline fishing, and a great photo opportunity with its 663- foot tall light house once on the western end of the Renaissance Center there will be a cluster of seven interconnected skyscrapers, including the General Motors world headquarters which offers shopping, dining, lodging, and entertainment. A block from the Ren-Cen in Rivard Plaza, the beautiful custom-made Cullen Family carousel features animals all native to the Detroit River except two: a sea serpentine and a mermaid. You can visit Eastern Market, which is a commercial district centered around a popular six- block farmer market which is open on Saturdays as well, and its been in operation since 1891.

Heidelberg Project

Heidelberg Project is an outdoor non- project art space showcasing funky installations made from recycled materials. It was created in 1986 by artist Tyree Guyton. It’s definitely one of our highlights. The Heidelberg Project is art, energy, and community. It’s an open-air art environment in the heart of an urban community  on Detroit’s Eastside. Tyree Guyton, founder and artistic director uses everyday discarded objects to create a two block area full of color, symbolism, and intrigue. Now in it’s 30th year, the Heidelberg Project is recognized around the world as a demonstration of the power of creativity to trans form lives.It is an outdoor environment, just north of the city’s historically African American black bottom area. Detroit’s Heidelberg street started with bright colors and attaching salvaged items to the houses.

It was a constantly evolving work that transformed a hard-core inner city neighborhood into one in which neighbors took pride and where visitors were welcome. The main goal was to develop the Project into the city’s first indoor and outdoor museum, complete with an artist’s colony, creative art center, community garden, and an amphitheater. In 2005 the Project was awarded the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence Silver Medal Art made of Junk.

Comerica Park is an open-air ballpark located in Downtown Detroit. It serves an the home of the Detroit Tigers. It has tiger statues guarding the gates when entering, which is amazing to see. It is one of the many highlights of Downtown Detroit. The park is named after the Comerica Bank, which was founded in Detroit and was based there when the park opened. The stadium’s seating capacity is 41,297. The founding in 1901, the Tigers has played at corner of Michigan and Trumbull Avenues in Detroit. The stadium also includes many baseball themed features, including a ” Monument Park” in the deep center field stands, complete with statues of former Tigers Ty Cobb, Hal Newhouser, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Al Kaline, and Willie Horton. There is also a Detroit People Mover station, which is a over the head train that runs from the park into the heart of Detroit. There is also a ferris wheel and a carousel for fans to ride. Not only home of the Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park has also hosted some of the biggest bands in rock ‘n’ roll. Fans flock to Comerica Park every summer to cheer on the Detroit Tigers. The open- air ballpark opened it doors in 2000 and maintains traditional architecture while adding luxury suites, an incredible picnic area, and the most progressive concession area. You can catch a spectacular view of the Detroit skyline from Comerica Park.

In Detroit has so many points of interest, such as the Detroit Institute of Arts. The Detroit Institute of Arts has a variety collections and film screenings. DIA is located in midtown Detroit, Michigan. It has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States. With over 100 galleries that covers 658,00 square feet. The DIA collection is regarded as among the top six museums in United States with an encyclopedic collection, which span the globe from ancient Egyptian and European works to contemporary art. The museum building is highly regarded by architects.
